RepublicMobile SMS Banking is a form of mobile banking which allows customers to conduct various banking transactions (account balances, payments to credit card) by sending predefined SMS messages to the Bank.
Who can sign up for RepublicMobile SMS Banking?
Any individual, above the age of 18, who has an existing account (deposit, credit card) with Republic Bank Limited in Trinidad and Tobago and has a registered mobile phone.
Can I register my business account(s) for RepublicMobile SMS Banking?
No. At this stage, RepublicMobile SMS Banking is only available to customers with personal accounts.
How can I register for RepublicMobile SMS Banking?
Registration for customers with RepublicOnline access: Log in
to RepublicOnline using your Username and Password, select the
“Register for SMS banking” link and proceed to register your mobile phone.
Registration for new customers requiring both RepublicOnline and
SMS Banking access: Log on to republicbanksr.com and click on the
RepublicOnline logo, then go to the “Sign Up” link and follow
the instructions. Be sure to read the Republic Internet/Mobile Banking Terms
of Usage Agreement and select the SMS Banking option on the application
form.
Can I register more than one mobile number?
No. Each customer can only register one mobile number.
Are there any restrictions in defining my account nicknames?
Yes. The SMS Banking account nickname must be unique, without spaces and must not be the same as the nicknames previously defined for your other accounts on Republic Online. It is recommended that customers assign nicknames that are short and simple to remember for ease of use.
What capabilities does my mobile phone need to have to access RepublicMobile SMS Banking?
To access RepublicMobile SMS Banking, customers must have a mobile
phone with text messaging capabilities. Your user
experience is however related to the features of your handset.
Please note that RepublicMobile SMS Banking services can only be
accessed using the short code 2722 .
How can I activate my RepublicMobile SMS Banking service after registering?
Existing RepublicOnline Internet Banking customers who register for RepublicMobile SMS Banking will receive immediate activation. Customers who are registering for RepublicOnline and RepublicMobile SMS for the first time and those who are registering for RepublicMobile SMS Banking only, will be activated within two (2) working days of registration, and confirmation text message will be sent to the customer after activation.
What should I do if I change my mobile number?
If you change your mobile number, please log in to RepublicOnline and update your SMS Banking number accordingly. If you are not a RepublicOnline user, please deactivate your old mobile number by contacting our Call Centre at 427-024 and visit your branch to activate your new mobile number.
What can I do if my mobile phone is not allowing me to send/receive text messages to/from the RepublicMobile SMS Banking short code 2722 ?
Subscribers may encounter problems in sending/receiving messages to/from the RepublicMobile SMS Banking short code 2722 . In this event, customers should contact their service providers directly to log any issues encountered.
Can anyone besides me get access to my account information via RepublicMobile SMS Banking?
Since you will be using your mobile phone to access your bank account, your
previous text or SMS messages would automatically be stored on your phone.
Therefore anyone else who uses your phone and goes into your SMS feature can
see your sent items including previous messages that you would have sent to
the bank and could access your account. It is therefore vitally important
that you apply the appropriate security features available on your mobile
phone. These features will provide an effective layer of security to prevent
unauthorized access.
These security features include:
1) Enable the password protected locking feature
2) Ensuring that your received/sent text messages are regularly
deleted.
3) Turning on Wi-Fi access only when required
4) Setting Bluetooth access to manual
5) Keeping your operating system and firmware current (smart phones)
What should I do if my mobile phone is lost or stolen?
In the unfortunate event that your mobile phone is lost or stolen, immediately deactivate your RepublicMobile SMS Banking account by contacting our Call Centre at 427-024. Alternatively, if you are registered for RepublicOnline, you can log in to the online banking application and unregister for RepublicMobile SMS Banking. If your mobile phone is recovered at a later date you can reactivate your account with that same mobile number.
How do I deactivate SMS banking?
To deactivate RepublicMobile SMS banking simply text the command “STOP” to 8RBL or contact our Call Centre at 427-024. Alternatively, if you are registered for RepublicOnline, you can log in to the online banking application and unregister for SMS Banking.
Will the information gathered by Republic Bank through my use of RepublicMobile SMS Banking be kept confidential?
In keeping with the Bank’s policy on customer confidentiality, all customer information submitted to us through the Internet or SMS will be maintained with the strictest confidence. Republic Bank will not disclose any customer information unless specifically authorized in writing by you to do so, or where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
How can I safely recycle or dispose of my mobile phone/device if I have used it for Mobile Banking?
It is recommended that before disposing of your mobile phone you restore it to factory default settings so that all personal information stored on the device will be erased.
What should I do if I receive an e-mail asking me to confirm my personal information?

Yes, you can receive information for accounts that are registered for RepublicMobile SMS Banking. The last 5 transactions will be presented.
When I review my transaction history, I notice that some transactions that I have recently completed do not appear. Why is this?
It is possible that credit and debit transactions performed at point of sale merchants or ABMs may not appear if these transactions have not yet been settled by the merchant or processed by the Bank or were not posted in the current credit card statement period. Unposted credit card transactions can be viewed in real-time on RepublicOnline. Please note that all electronic transactions are updated in real-time and your available balance is available through RepublicMobile SMS Banking via the balance command “BAL”.
When I review my credit card account transaction history, I'm not getting the last 5 transactions. Why is this?
The last five transactions within the current billing cycle should be presented to you. Credit Card statements are processed on the 20th of every month. If the 20th falls on the weekend or a public holiday, the statements are processed on the next working day. Once statements are processed, you will not have access, via SMS Banking, to the transactions listed on that statement. Please note that you can view these transactions or copies of your last 3 credit card statements on RepublicOnline.
Do the balances provided by RepublicMobile SMS Banking include updated available balance?
Yes. Balances provided by RepublicMobile SMS Banking are updated in “real time” and will reflect your up to date available balance.
Can I access "joint" accounts?
In keeping with the current Online Banking convention, only where the signing authority is “either party to sign” will the account be accessible via RepublicMobile SMS Banking. Where the signing authority on the account is “and” or “all to sign”, there will be no access to the account.
How many accounts can I access via RepublicMobile SMS Banking?
There are no limits to the number of accounts customers can register for RepublicMobile SMS Banking access.
What are the daily transaction limits?
There are no limits to the number of transactions you can perform on RepublicMobile
SMS Banking, subject to the terms and conditions applicable to your account.
However, you may make cumulative account transfers of up to SRD$100,000 per
day and credit card payments of up to SRD$100,000 per day.
Please note that although the maximum credit card daily payment is
SRD$100,000, you can only pay up to the outstanding balance on your credit
card..
How long will it take to process a credit card payment made via RepublicMobile SMS Banking?
Credit card payments are immediately reflected on your credit card(s). However, if your credit card status is “overlimit” or “past due”, your funds will only be available from the next business day.
How long will it take to process a funds transfer made via RepublicMobile SMS Banking?
In the case of self-linked transfers or accounts which are in your name,
funds will be immediately available upon successful completion of the
transaction. Transaction information will be reflected in your account
history on the following day if the transaction is performed before 8p.m.
Monday through Friday. Transfers made over the weekend or on a public
holiday will be reflected in your account history within two (2) working
days.
Third Party Transfers i.e. transfers to third party account holders cannot
be performed using SMS Banking.
Are RepublicMobile SMS Banking alerts sent to customers in real time?
RepublicMobile SMS Banking alerts are not processed in “real time”. A customer will receive requested SMS Banking alerts on the next working day. For example, if your salary was deposited on Monday, you will receive the SMS “salary deposited” alert on Tuesday. Please note that weekends and public holidays are not considered to be working days.
